Challenge Mode is a simple game for cutting back. A no-spend day is a day with no expenses recorded. The page finds those days for you, so you do not need to tick anything.

How it works

Days without expenses are marked as no-spend days. The page reads your transactions, so you do not tick anything. Adding an expense on a day removes that day from the streak.

The page does not count:

  • Recurring payments, which are kept on the scheduled payments list.
  • Transfers between your accounts.
  • Deleted transactions.
  • Future days.

Your goal is to go about one-third of the month without spending. The page rounds one-third of the days in the month to the nearest whole number. For a 31-day month, the goal is 10 days, which is the "10" in "21 / 10".

Use the calendar

Select a day in the calendar to open the Transactions page filtered to that date. From there you can see or change what was recorded that day.

A day counts as no-spend only when its transactions are recorded. Make sure everyday purchases are entered on the Transactions page, or the streak will look better than it is.

Add a spending habit

The Spending Habit Calculator shows what a regular purchase costs you over time, such as a daily coffee.

The Add Habit form, with Habit Name, Cost per Unit and Frequency
  1. Select Add Habit.
  2. Enter a Habit Name, such as "Coffee".
  3. Enter the Cost per Unit.
  4. Choose the Frequency. It is set to Daily by default.
  5. Select Add Habit, or Cancel to close the form.

Until you add a habit, the section says "No spending habits tracked yet." To change a habit, select its edit icon.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

No. The days are detected from your transactions. To change a day's status, change the transactions for that day.

Any expense recorded on a day ends that day's no-spend status, so the streak counts from the next day.

The goal is one-third of the days in the month, rounded to a whole number. A 31-day month gives 10, and a 30-day month gives 10 as well.
