Two pages in the Analysis group show how your money is split. Analysis (its page title is 50/30/20 Analysis) compares your income with the 50/30/20 rule: about 50% for Needs, 30% for Wants and 20% for Savings. Distribution (titled Expense Distribution) shows where your expenses went, grouped by type or by category.

What you'll learn

  • How the 50/30/20 targets and compliance are shown
  • How to read the category breakdown
  • How to switch the distribution view and compare with your plan

50/30/20 Analysis

50/30/20 Analysis for the month: the split of income, the compliance summary and the category breakdown

What you see

  1. Previous month, Current Month and Next month.
  2. Export CSV and Print / PDF.
  3. Total Income for the month.
  4. Compliance Summary — a bar for each group (Needs, Wants, Savings) with its percentage, its target, the budgeted percentage and amount.
  5. Where your income goes — the share of income in each group, plus Unallocated income that has not been assigned.
  6. Three group cards, one each for Needs, Wants and Savings. Each shows its Target, its Actual share and a Status (for example No Income when there is no income for the month). Open Category Breakdown to see the categories in the group.

If there is no income in the month, the page says "Add income to evaluate budget compliance".

Compliance Summary: one bar per group with its target and the budgeted amount
Where your income goes: the share of income for Needs, Wants and Savings, with Unallocated income at the bottom

How to read it

  • The Target for Needs is 50% of income, Wants 30% and Savings 20%.
  • A group whose Actual share is above its target needs attention. Look at the category breakdown to see which categories push it up.
  • Unallocated income is income not yet assigned to a group. In a zero-based plan, aim for it to reach zero.

Your group for each category is set on the Categories page. If a category is in the wrong group, the 50/30/20 result will be wrong too.
