Transactions are for money that doesn't follow a fixed schedule: groceries, a dinner out, a tank of fuel, a one-off freelance payment. Regular bills and salary belong on the Recurring page instead. Together, the two give you a complete picture of your month.
What you'll learn
- How to add an expense, income, or savings transaction
- How to move money from one account to another
- How to find, edit and delete transactions
The Transactions page
Open Transactions from the Overview section of the sidebar. The page title reads Variable Transactions, and it always shows one month at a time. Use the arrows next to the month name to move back or forward.
At the top you'll see the month's Total Expenses, Total Income, and Net Amount (income minus expenses), with a count of transactions. Below is the list, with the newest transactions first.
Add a transaction
- Click Add Transaction.
- Check the Date. It's set to today.
- Enter the Amount as a positive number, even for expenses.
- Add a Description (optional), like "Weekly groceries".
- Pick a Category. The list is searchable and grouped the same way as your Categories page.
- Choose the Transaction Type: Expense, Income, or Savings.
- Choose the Account the money comes from.
- Click Create.
You'll see "Transaction created successfully". The transaction appears in the list, and the account balance updates.
Optional details
- Target Account (optional) — use this when money moves between your own accounts, for example from checking to savings.
- Subcategory (optional) — a free-text label for extra detail, such as "Coffee" under Dining Out.
- Spender — who made the purchase or earned the money. Spenders are set up in Budget Settings.
- 50/30/20 Classification — tag the transaction as Needs, Wants, or Savings. This feeds the 50/30/20 Analysis page.
Log spending as it happens, or set aside two minutes at the end of each day. Small purchases like coffee and snacks are exactly what you forget by the end of the month, and they add up.
Find a transaction
- Search — type in Search description... to filter by description.
- Type buttons — switch between All, Expense, Income, and Savings.
- Filters — open more filters for amount (Min/Max) and a Date Range. Click Clear Filters to reset them.
- Column filters — the small filter icons in the table headers narrow the list by category, type, or account.
- Sort — click the Date header to switch between newest and oldest first.
Edit or delete
On each row, use the pencil icon to open Edit Transaction, change what you need, and click Update. Use the trash icon to delete a single transaction after confirming.
To delete several at once, tick the boxes on the left of the rows. A bar shows how many are selected. Click Delete Selected and confirm.
Spending you track in Wedding Planner, Trip Planner, or Project Manager can show up here automatically. These rows carry a label such as "Auto-synced from Wedding Planner", so you can tell where they came from.
Export your transactions
Use Export CSV to download the month's list as a spreadsheet, or Print / PDF to print it or save it as a PDF.
