Every goal belongs to a life area — a part of your life such as health, career, money or relationships. Life areas keep your goal list tidy, color your goal cards, and show you at a glance whether one part of life is getting all the attention while another is forgotten.
Your starter areas
The first time you open Goal Planner, your account gets a set of ten starter areas, including Health & Fitness, Career Growth, Finances & Wealth, Relationships, Home, Adventure & Travel and Community. Starter areas carry a small Default label. You can rename, recolor or delete them just like your own.
Click Life Areas in the sidebar to see them all.
Each card shows the area's emoji and name, how many goals it holds, and a My Goals button that opens your goal list filtered to that area.
Add a new area
- Click New Area in the top bar.
- Enter a Name, for example "Learning".
- Pick an Emoji from the row of options.
- Pick a Color. This color is used for the area's goal cards and dashboard tile.
- Click Create Area.
The new area is immediately available in the Area of Life dropdown when you create or edit a goal.
Keep your list short. Six to ten areas that really matter to you are easier to balance than twenty narrow ones. You can always put a more specific word in the goal name instead.
Edit an area
Click the pencil icon on an area's card. The same form opens with the title Edit Area. Change the name, emoji or color and click Save Changes. Goals in the area keep their place — they simply pick up the new name and color.
Two areas can't share the same name, so pick something different if you see an error.
Delete an area
Click the trash icon on the card. You'll be asked: "Delete this area and all its goals?"
Deleting a life area also deletes every goal inside it, including their steps, milestones and notes. If you want to keep those goals, edit each one first and move it to a different Area of Life.
Life areas on the dashboard
The dashboard shows a Life Areas row with one tile per area. Each tile shows the number of goals and the percentage of them you've achieved, with a bar in the area's color. Click a tile to see that area's goals, or click Edit to jump to the Life Areas page.
In the Activity, life areas & achievements section at the bottom of the dashboard, the Life Wheel chart puts all your areas on one wheel so you can spot the ones that are lagging behind. It appears once you have goals in at least three areas.

Yes — use the All Areas dropdown on My Goals, click My Goals on an area card, or click an area tile on the dashboard.
Area percentages count achieved goals, not steps. As soon as you mark a goal in that area as Achieved, the percentage goes up. See Tracking progress and completing goals.
