Goal Planner helps you turn big intentions into a clear plan: name the goal, break it into steps, mark checkpoints along the way, and look back on your week. This article walks you through what you see when you open the module and what to do first.
Find your way around
Open Goal Planner from the product switcher at the top of the left sidebar. The sidebar has four pages:
| Page | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Your next step, overall progress, upcoming milestones and goals that need attention |
| My Goals | Every goal as a card, with filters, templates and the New Goal button |
| Life Areas | The categories your goals belong to (for example Health & Fitness or Career Growth) |
| Templates | Ready-made goals with steps and milestones you can start from |
The New Goal button is always in the top bar of the dashboard, so you can add a goal from anywhere you start.
Your first visit
When you have no goals yet, the dashboard asks "What would you like to work towards?" and shows two buttons:
- Create Goal — start from a blank form
- Browse templates — pick a ready-made goal from the Templates page
Next to them is a short three-part path: Define your goal, Make it manageable (break it into steps and milestones) and Reflect and adjust (review your progress). That's exactly how the module is meant to be used.
Not sure where to begin? Pick a template that's close to what you want. You get a goal with its steps and milestones already filled in, and you can edit everything afterwards.
Reading the dashboard
Once you have goals, the dashboard greets you with "Make room for your next step." and fills in.
Your next step
The large card on the left picks one goal for you to focus on. Goal Planner chooses the unfinished goal with the nearest deadline (goals without a deadline come after those that have one). The card shows:
- The goal's life area and deadline (marked Overdue if the date has passed)
- The first step you haven't completed yet — click it to open the goal's plan
- Up to three of the goal's milestones
- A count such as 2 of 5 steps complete and an Open plan link
If a goal has no open steps, the card says Review your next step and invites you to open the goal and add one.
Your progress
The panel on the right shows how many goals you've achieved out of the total (for example 3 / 27 goals completed), with a bar underneath. Below it you'll see how many goals are In Progress and how many are Waiting (not started yet), plus Top Priorities — other goals with close deadlines.
Life Areas, milestones and attention
Further down, the dashboard shows:
- Life Areas — one tile per area with its number of goals and the share of them you've achieved. Click a tile to see only that area's goals.
- Upcoming Milestones — open milestones that have a target date, nearest first.
- Needs Attention — goals marked In Progress where nothing has been ticked off for 14 days or more.
Activity, life areas and achievements
At the bottom, click Activity, life areas & achievements to expand three extra views: an Activity & Streak calendar of the days you completed things, a Life Wheel chart comparing your areas, and Achievements — badges you earn for streaks and finished goals and steps.
The Life Wheel only appears once you have goals in at least three life areas.
What to do first
- Create your first goal — or start from one of the templates.
- Add a few steps and milestones so the dashboard can show you a next step.
- Tick steps off as you go — see Tracking progress and completing goals.
- Once a week, run a Weekly Review.
FAQ
The card always picks the unfinished goal with the nearest deadline. Change that goal's deadline, or mark it Achieved, and the dashboard will pick the next one.
Goal Planner gives every account a set of starter life areas. You can rename, recolor, add or delete them on the Life Areas page — see Life Areas.
