Writing a plan from scratch takes time. Templates give you a head start: each one is a complete goal with a description, the reasons it matters, how to measure success, a reward idea, a list of steps and a set of milestones. You choose one, tweak it, and it's yours.

Browse the templates

Click Templates in the sidebar. The Goal Templates page shows 15 ready-made goals across categories such as Health & Fitness, Career Growth, Finances & Wealth, Relationships, Home, Adventure & Travel and Fun & Hobbies — for example Run a 5K Race, Build Emergency Fund, Read 12 Books This Year and Learn a New Language (Conversational).

The Goal Templates page with search and category filter

Each card shows:

  • The category and the goal's name and description
  • How many steps it includes, with the first three listed (and "+2 more" if there are more)
  • How many milestones it includes
  • A Use This Template button

To find something quickly, type in Search templates... or choose a category from the All dropdown next to it.

Use a template

  1. Click Use This Template on the card you like.
  2. The New Goal form opens with the goal name and description already filled in. The template's answers to Why is this goal important?, How do you measure success? and Reward are under Planning details.
  3. Choose an Area of Life. This isn't filled in for you, because your life areas may be named differently from the template's category.
  4. Add a Deadline and adjust any text so it fits your own situation — for example, change "Reach Your Target Weight" to a specific number.
  5. Click Create Goal.

The goal is created with all of the template's steps and milestones, and its detail panel opens right away so you can review the plan.

Templates are a starting point, not a rulebook. Delete the steps that don't apply to you, add your own, and give milestones target dates so they show up in Upcoming Milestones on the dashboard.

Templates from My Goals

You don't need to leave My Goals to use a template. Click the Template button in the toolbar to open the same collection in a window, with a search box and category buttons. Click a template and the pre-filled New Goal form opens.

You can also reach the Templates page from an empty dashboard with Browse templates.

If something doesn't get added

Steps and milestones are added just after the goal itself is saved. If your connection drops at that moment, you'll see: "Goal created, but some template items could not be added. Open the goal to review and add the missing items." Your goal is safe — just open it and add any missing steps or milestones by hand.

On the free plan there's a limit on how many goals you can have. If you've reached it, Use This Template shows an upgrade prompt instead of the form.

FAQ

No. Once you click Create Goal, the goal is completely yours. Templates never update goals you've already created.

Not at the moment. Templates are a fixed collection. To reuse a goal regularly, tick Repeating goal when you create it — see Creating a goal.

The form only shows the goal's details. The steps and milestones appear once the goal is created, and you can reorder or delete them, or add new ones, on the detail panel.
