Clients often want to know one thing: how is my project going? With the Client Portal you can send them a private link to a live progress page for their project. They don't need an account and can't change anything.
You'll find it in the sidebar under Tools → Client Portal. The page sums up the process in three steps: Add your client, Create a portal for one of your projects, and Copy the link and send it to your client.
Client Portal is part of the paid Project Manager plan. On the free plan you'll see an upgrade prompt instead.
Step 1: Add your client
- Press New Client at the top right.
- Enter the client's Name and Email. Both are required.
- Optionally add a Company (optional) name.
- Press Create.
The client now appears as a card with their name, email and company, and a count of their active portals.
Step 2: Create a portal
- On the client's card, press Create portal.
- Choose the Project you want to share. One portal shows one project.
- Under What can your client do?, pick one option:
- View only — the client can see progress and tasks.
- View and comment — the client can also leave comments on the portal page.
- Press Create link.
Working on more than one project for the same client? Press Create portal again and pick the other project. Each project gets its own link.
Step 3: Send the link
As soon as the portal is created, you'll see the message "The portal is ready. Copy the link and send it to your client — they can open it without an account."
- Press the copy icon next to the link, then paste it into an email or message to your client.
- Press Open portal to see exactly what your client will see.
- Press Done to close the window.
Managing your portals
Every link you've created is listed under Portals. Each row shows the client and project, the access level and the full link. Three icons sit on the right:
- Copy link — copy the link again.
- Open portal — open the client's view in a new tab.
- Turn off link — stop the link from working. You'll be asked to confirm. The client won't be able to open it anymore, but you can always create a new link.
What your client sees
When your client opens the link, they see a clean page with:
- the project name and its status
- how many tasks are done and an overall progress bar
- the full task list, with each task's status and due date
They don't see budgets, expenses, the people assigned to tasks, or any of your other projects. The page updates as you work, so there's nothing to resend when you finish a task.
If you chose View and comment, a Comments box appears at the bottom of the page. Your client enters their Name and message and presses Send. To read their comments, open the portal from the Portals list.
Turning off links and deleting a client
When a project wraps up, you can stop sharing in two ways:
- Turn off one link with the turn-off icon in the Portals list.
- Delete the client with the trash icon on their card. You'll see this confirmation: "This removes [client] and turns off every portal link you shared with them. Invoices stay as they are."
Anyone who opens a turned-off link sees a short message instead of your project:
Anyone who has the link can open the portal. Only send it to people you trust with the project details, and turn it off when it's no longer needed.
FAQ
No. The link opens the portal page directly, without signing up or logging in.
No. Clients can only view the project and, if you allowed it, leave comments.
A portal always shows one project, so you need at least one project first. See Creating and managing projects.
Not on an existing link. Turn off the old link, then use Create portal again with the access you want and send your client the new link.
