The Task Detail Panel is a drawer that slides in from the right when you open a task. It holds everything about one task that does not fit in a list row: subtasks, comments, labels, files, tracked time and custom fields.
You can open it from almost anywhere: click a task title on Variable Tasks, the Kanban Board, the Decision Matrix, a calendar, Task Filter, Search, a project's page, or a task on the Dashboard.
What you see
The panel has three parts.
- Header. A coloured bar showing the task's status colour, the task title, the first two lines of its description, and a close button (X). Under the title are a status pill (for example In Progress), the person in charge and the progress percentage.
- Six tabs: Subtasks, Comments, Labels, Files, Time and Fields. A small number on a tab shows how many items it holds.
- Activity at the bottom, under whichever tab is open. It has a Follow task button and a list of changes.
Press Escape or the X button to close the panel.
Subtasks
Break a task into smaller steps.
- Open the Subtasks tab.
- Type in Add subtask... and press Enter.
- Click the circle next to a subtask to tick it off. Click again to untick.
- Hover a subtask and click the trash icon to delete it.
Comments
Leave notes for yourself or the people working on the task.
- Open the Comments tab.
- Type in Add comment....
- Press Enter, or click the send icon (Send comment).
Each entry is marked Comment or Activity. Hover an entry and click the trash icon to delete it.
Labels
Labels are coloured tags you use to group tasks, such as "Urgent" or "Design".
- Open the Labels tab.
- Click a label to switch it on for this task. A tick appears. Click it again to switch it off.
- To make a new label, type a name in New label, e.g. Urgent, choose a colour, and press Add. The new label is attached to the task right away.
If you have no labels yet, the tab says "No labels yet — create your first one below." You can also manage all your labels in Labels and in Settings.
Files
- Open the Files tab.
- Press Upload File and choose an image.
- The file appears in the list with its size in KB. Hover it and click the trash icon to remove it.
You can upload JPEG, PNG or WebP images. Each file can be up to 5 MB. Other file types are not accepted here.
Time
Track how long you work on the task.
- Open the Time tab.
- Press Start Timer when you begin.
- Press Stop Timer when you finish.
The tab shows the total in minutes (for example "45m total") and one line per entry with its date and length. A timer that is still going shows Running.... For hours per person and per project, see Time Tracking.
Fields
The Fields tab shows custom fields: extra boxes such as a text, a number, a date, a list or a yes/no checkbox. Fill them in and they are saved for this task. Dropdown fields start at Select....
If no fields exist, the tab says "No custom fields defined. Create fields from Settings."
The current Settings page does not have a place to create task custom fields, so this tab is usually empty. Do not look for it there.
Activity and following a task
Below the tabs you see:
- Follow task. Press it to follow the task. The button changes to Unfollow task.
- A list of changes, each with who did it and when: Created the task, Updated the task, Changed assignees and Added a comment.
- "No activity yet" when nothing has happened.
FAQ
Tasks from a project shared with you may be read-only if you do not have edit permission. Ask the project owner, see Team, Workspaces and Sharing.
JPEG, PNG and WebP images up to 5 MB each.
No. Deleting a label only removes that label from every task that uses it.
The panel is for details around the task. To change the title, dates or priority, edit the task on Variable Tasks.
