Time Tracking

Start and stop a timer on a task, review recent entries and see how much time each task has taken.

Time Tracking records how long you spend on a task. Start a timer when you begin, stop it when you finish, and NevaPlan keeps the entry. Use it to see where your hours go, or to back up what you tell a client.

Open Time Tracking in the Views group of the sidebar.

The timer at the top, with Recent Entries and the Time Report below

What you see

  1. The Timer card. It shows a clock and the line Select task to track. While a timer runs, the line changes to Running... and the clock counts up.
  2. A project filter, set to All Projects by default.
  3. The Recent Entries list, with a search box, the date and time of each entry, an optional note, and the length of time.
  4. The Time Report card, with the total time and a bar for each task.

How to track time

  1. In the Timer card, open Select task.... You can type to search your tasks.
  2. Choose a task. Only tasks that are not done are in the list, and each shows its project underneath.
  3. Click Start. The clock begins counting.
  4. When you finish, click Stop. The entry is saved with its length in minutes.

While a timer is running, the card shows the task name and a Stop button instead of the task picker. This means you work on one timed task at a time. Stop the running timer before you start another one.

You can also start and stop a timer inside a task. Open the task, go to its Time tab and use Start Timer or Stop Timer. The entry appears here too. See The task detail panel.

Recent Entries

Each entry shows the task title, when it started, an optional description, and its duration. An entry that is still running shows Running... instead of a duration.

The Recent Entries panel with its search box and one running entry
  • Type in the search box to find entries by task name.
  • The list shows 10 entries per page. Use the arrows at the bottom to move between pages.
  • Choose a project in the filter to see only entries for tasks in that project.

The page has no form for typing in an entry by hand. Entries come from running the timer.

Time Report

The Time Report adds up your tracked time. At the top you see the total time and the number of entries. Below that is one bar per task, longest first, so you can see which tasks took the most time.

The project filter above applies to the report as well. Choose a project to see time for that project only.

If nothing is tracked yet, the page says No time entries yet. Start a timer to begin tracking.

The same total appears as Time Logged on the Reports page. If you bill by the hour, the Invoices page can match old hourly lines against your time entries. See Invoices.

FAQ

The page shows one running timer at a time. Stop the current one first, then pick another task and press Start.

The clock keeps counting from the moment you started it. Click Stop as soon as you notice. The entry will include the extra time. This page has no way to edit an entry afterwards, so stop the timer promptly.

The list only has tasks that are not done. Reopen the task if you need to track more time on it.

Not from this page. There is no manual entry form here.
