Journal: Write the Story of Your Trip

How to write journal entries for a trip with a mood, weather, location and video, format them with Markdown, and publish selected entries to a shareable journal page.

The Journal is where you write about your trip day by day. Capture what happened, how you felt and where you were. When you want to, publish entries so that other people can read them.

Open it from the sidebar under Explore & remember. Choose the trip with the Select Trip list at the top. The New Entry button is available once a trip is selected.

What an entry looks like

The journal of a honeymoon trip with three entries, shown as a timeline by day number

Each entry is a card on a timeline. The card shows:

  1. The Day number and the location, for example Day 3 and Oia.
  2. The mood and weather icons you chose. Hover over them to see the name.
  3. The title. Click it to open the entry for editing.
  4. The publish control, an eye icon. A green eye means the entry is published. An eye with a line through it means it is still private. Private entries show this control when you hover over the card.
  5. The trash icon. It deletes the entry after you confirm.

The date of the entry's creation appears under the text, for example Thursday, October 22, 2026.

Write an entry

The New Entry window: day number, location, title, the text box with its Markdown toolbar, the video link, mood and weather
  1. Choose the trip in Select Trip.
  2. Click New Entry.
  3. Fill in the fields in the New Entry window:
    • Day #: the day of the trip the entry is about. It starts on 1.
    • Location (optional): for example "Eiffel Tower".
    • Title: a short name for the day, for example "Lost in the old town".
    • What happened today?: the text of the entry. You can use Markdown: **bold**, *italic*, headings and lists. The toolbar above the text box has Bold, Italic, Heading, List and Image buttons. The Image button only inserts a Markdown placeholder; it does not upload a photo. Photos are kept in the trip's album (see below).
    • Video Clip (YouTube/Vimeo URL): paste the link of a video from the trip. YouTube and Vimeo links are shown as a player inside the entry.
    • Mood: Amazing, Great, Good, Okay or Bad. Click a mood again to clear it.
    • Weather: Sunny, Cloudy, Rainy, Snowy or Windy. Click a weather again to clear it.
  4. Click Save Entry. You need a Title and text before the button works.

Open and edit an entry

The Edit Entry window for Sunset in Oia, with the saved values filled in

Click an entry's title to open it in the Edit Entry window. Change what you need, then click Save Changes. Click Cancel to leave it as it was.

To delete an entry, click the trash icon on its card and confirm Delete this entry?.

If there are no entries yet, the page says "No entries yet" and "Start writing your trip story. Capture moments, moods and memories."

Publish an entry

Publishing shares one entry on a public journal page.

  1. On the entry, click the eye icon. Its tooltip reads Publish to blog while the entry is private.
  2. Once published, the tooltip reads Published — click to unpublish and the icon turns green. Click it again to take the entry off the public page.

Only published entries appear on the public page. Unpublished entries stay in your journal.

Share the journal

The Share Blog button next to New Entry, shown when the selected trip has at least one published entry

When at least one entry of the selected trip is published, the Share Blog button appears next to New Entry. Click it to copy the link of the trip's journal page. The button then reads Copied! for a moment.

Anyone with the link can read the published entries. Unpublished entries stay private.

Photos and the journal

The entry form does not have a photo upload. Trip photos are kept in the trip's album. See Photos.

Read an entry before you publish it. Published text is public. Do not publish the names, phone numbers or addresses of people you travel with unless they agreed to it.

Write each entry the same day. A few sentences, a mood and the weather are enough. You can add more later.
