Milestones and Targets

Mark key dates with milestones and track countable goals with targets, using simple lists and one-click progress.

Two light-weight pages in the Planning group help you keep an eye on the big picture. Milestones are dates that matter, such as "Client sign-off". Targets are numbers you want to reach, such as "Sign 10 contracts". Neither one is a task: they sit beside your tasks and do not change them.

Milestones

A milestone is a title and a due date, optionally tied to a project. You tick it off when you get there.

Open Milestones in the sidebar.

What you see

The four summary cards: Total, Completed, Pending and Overdue
The Milestones page with two pending milestones, each tied to a project
  1. The Add Milestone button in the page header.
  2. Four summary cards: Total, Completed, Pending and Overdue. A milestone counts as overdue when it is still pending and its due date has passed.
  3. Filter buttons: All, Pending and Completed.
  4. One row per milestone. Each row has a circle you can click, the title, the due date, the project name if it has one, and edit and delete icons. A completed milestone shows its title crossed out and the date it was completed. An overdue date is shown in red.

If the list is empty, the page says No milestones yet.

How to add a milestone

The Add Milestone window with the title, date and project fields
  1. Click Add Milestone.
  2. Type the title in Milestone title.... It is required.
  3. Pick a due date. This is required too.
  4. Under the date, choose a project, or leave No project.
  5. Click Create.

How to complete, edit or delete a milestone

  • Complete it. Click the circle on the left of the row. It becomes a check mark. Click it again to put the milestone back to pending.
  • Edit it. Click the pencil. The window is named Edit Milestone. Change the fields and click Update.
  • Delete it. Click the trash icon and confirm.

Pair milestones with the Gantt chart: use the Gantt chart for task dates and dependencies, and milestones for the handful of dates you want to remember.

Targets

A target has a title, a goal number and a unit, for example 10 "contracts" or 500 "km". You push it forward one step at a time and watch the bar fill.

Open Targets in the sidebar.

What you see

A target card showing 265 of 400 tickets sold
  1. The Add Target button in the page header.
  2. One card per target, in a two-column grid on wide screens. Each card shows the title, the unit, the current value out of the goal, a progress bar, the percentage and the due date if you set one.
  3. A +1 button at the bottom of each card, and a trash icon at the top.

With no targets yet, the page says "No targets yet. Create your first target to start tracking."

How to add a target

The Add Target window with the title, value, unit and due date fields
  1. Click Add Target.
  2. Type a title in Target title....
  3. Enter the goal in Target value. This is a number, and it is required.
  4. Enter a unit in Unit (e.g. km). If you leave it empty, the unit is "count".
  5. Optionally pick a Due date.
  6. Click Create. A new target starts at 0.

How to update a target

Click +1 on the card each time you make progress. The bar and percentage move up. When a target reaches 100% the bar turns to a done colour and +1 is switched off.

Targets move one step at a time. The page has no field to type a value, and no way to edit a target after you create it. If you make a mistake, delete the target (the trash icon, then confirm) and add it again.

Need a starting value or a confidence score? Use OKR instead. Targets are for simple counts.

FAQ

No. Project health comes from the project's end date, its overdue tasks and its progress. A late milestone is only shown on the Milestones page.

No. A milestone is a title, a date and an optional project. It does not hold tasks.

Not from the card. +1 only adds. Delete and recreate the target if you need to start over.

The target has reached its goal. The button is switched off at 100%.
