How to create a travel group for a trip, invite people with a code or QR code, join a group, and use its Overview, Members, Expenses, Chat and Votes tabs.

Group Travel is for trips you take with other people. A group lets the people on a trip see the plan, add shared expenses, chat and vote on choices. Group expenses show who owes whom, so the money is easy to settle.

Open it from the sidebar under Plan your trip. The same group tools are also on the Group tab of each trip.

The Group Travel page

The Group Travel page: Join a Trip Group, the Active Group Trips card, and the Solo Trips list with a Create Group link on each trip

The page has three parts:

  1. Join a Trip Group: type an invite code in Enter invite code and click Join. When it works, you see Successfully joined the group!
  2. Active Group Trips: the trips that already have a group. Each card shows the group name, the number of members and the invite code. The section appears only once you have a group.
  3. Solo Trips — Add a Group: your trips that have no group yet. Each card has a Create Group link.

If you have no trips, the page says "No trips yet" and "Create a trip first, then invite friends to join."

An Active Group Trips card: the trip, its place and date, the group name, the member count and the invite code

Click an active group card to open the trip's Group tab.

Create a group

  1. On the Solo Trips — Add a Group list, click Create Group on the trip card. You can also open the trip and use its Group tab.
  2. The Create Travel Group window opens. Enter a Group Name, for example "Paris Trip 2026".
  3. Optionally enter a Description.
  4. Click Create Group.

You become the Organizer of the group. Other people who join are Participants.

The Group tab

The group has five tabs under the trip's Group tab: Overview, Members, Expenses, Chat and Votes. Click a tab to open it.

Overview

The Overview tab: the Group Invite Code with Copy and QR code buttons, and the Members, Active Votes and Total figures

The Overview tab holds the invite code and three figures:

  1. The Group Invite Code field, with the code in it.
  2. Copy: copies the code. The button reads Copied! when it works.
  3. The QR code button: opens Invite via QR Code. From there you can Download the QR code image and share it.
  4. Members, Active Votes and Total.

Share the code with the friends you want to invite. They join by entering it in Join a Trip Group on the Group Travel page.

Anyone with an invite code can join the group. Share the code only with the people you travel with.

Members

The Members tab: each member's name, email, role badge and join date

Each member card shows the member's name and email, their role, Organizer or Participant, and the date they Joined. Only members who accepted the invite are listed. The tab shows No members yet while the group is empty.

Expenses

The Expenses tab: the Expense Summary list, the Who Owes Whom transfer and the You Owe, You're Owed and Net cards

The Expenses tab has three parts:

  1. Expense Summary: the shared expenses — trip expenses paid by a group member and split between group members — with who paid each one and the amount. Expenses you logged only for yourself are not listed here.
  2. Who Owes Whom: the transfers that settle the shared expenses. Each line shows an arrow and the amount to pay.
  3. The You Owe, You're Owed and Net cards: your own balance, worked out from the same shared expenses as the transfers above, so the two always agree.

Each expense is paid by one person and split using the split type you choose. See Trip budget for the split types.

The app shows the balances; it does not move money between people. Use the figures to settle up with your own bank or payment app. The tab shows No expenses recorded yet until you add one.

Chat

A message board for the group. Type a message in the message box and click Send. Until someone writes, the chat says "No messages yet — start the conversation!"

Votes

Votes let the group decide things together, such as which restaurant to book. The Votes tab lists the Active Votes. Choose an option to cast your vote. If nothing is open, it says "No active votes".

Add shared costs as they happen, not at the end. Balances are easier to check when each expense is recorded on the day it was paid.

FAQ

Check that you typed the whole code, without extra spaces. If it still fails, ask the organizer to copy the code again from the Overview tab.

No. The balances show who owes whom. Settle payments with your own bank or payment app.

The summary lists only shared expenses: the payer must be a group member and the expense must be split between group members. An expense with no split, or split with someone who has not joined the group, stays in the trip budget but is not shared.
